Step 7: Campaign as a Supporter
This step is applicable for All Campaigners
Estimated Time: 45 minutes - 1 hour
Doing is the best way of learning. So before you campaign with your own content, it would make sense to campaign with other people's content that is already posted. So, let's get started.
What does campaigning entail?
Campaigning is the process through which we increase awareness of the general public on a topic. This would involve maximising the impressions (and views) on social media, which can be achieved by increased engagement of the content.
What is engagement?
Simplisitically, engagement refers to the degree to which social media users are interacting with your content. Broadly, there are three ways in which you can engage your audience:
Reactions: the viewer reacts to the content through emojis, likes, up/down votes, etc. This is where you will see maximum variation in social media sites. Depending on what their goal is they'll be using different kinds of reactions.
Comments: the viewer expresses his/her opinions about the content. This is fairly standard across the board - with some minor variations in the ability to add emojis and media to the content.
Shares: the viewer shares the content to his/her network showing approval/disapproval. This is how stuff usually goes 'viral'.
What's the Campaign Supporter's role?
As a campaign supporter your role is to help maximise the reach of the campaign content posted on the various social media channels. To do this you need to authentically engage with the content in the three ways mentioned above - liking, commenting and sharing. Especially sharing the content with your network, to increase the knowledge about your family, friends and colleagues on these various issues.
The best part is you don't need to do it all together - you can do it by spending a few minutes here and there in the next few weeks - you have time until your own campaign begins :)
So, it's simple - just go to each of the sources listed below - and create HYPE: Like, Comment and Share!
PS: If you haven't followed/subscribed to the pages/channels/communities already, please do so too (list in Step 4).
