Step 11: Create Your Campaign's Banner in Canva
This step is applicable for All Campaigners
Estimated Time: 30 minutes
Requirements: Canva Account and Campaign Topic*
*Please proceed only after receiving approval for your campaign topicStep 11.1: Create/Identify Banner Image
While doing steps 6 and 7 you might have noticed an image on the campaign banners which covers about half the page. In this step you need to arrange one image for your campaign banner.
How should the image be?
Relevant: The image should be relevant to your campaign topic.
Good Quality: It should have a good resolution.
The box size is: 960px x 1080px. So your image should preferably have a minimum width of 960 px and a minimum height of 1080 px.
The overall aspect ratio should not matter because we will use a frame that will automatically resize the image - it won't take a second. But, if the subject is not placed appropriately in the image, it might be difficult to use the image.
Clear Subject: The subject should be clear and in focus.
Message amplifier/enhancer: It should add to the information received by the people looking at it, and should not just be a good-looking filler for the page.
Where can you find/create the images?
You may use any of the options below. In the end you should have one image that meets the criteria in the previous section.
Canva: by using the Elements option. We can assume these to be copyright safe.
Do tasks 1 and 2 of step 11.2 below.
Click on Elements option in the menu (at the right in laptop/tab/ipad, at the bottom in phones).
Scroll down to Photos (or Graphics) and click on See all.
You can select any photo (or graphic) by clicking on it or dragging it to the template window.
Note: Canva shows pro options in the beginning, scroll down and you will find the free options.
Your own creations or photos: Feel free to add your own photos or art if they suit the context.
Stockphoto sites on the internet: There are plenty of sites which offer free stockphotos. Some options are listed here - please look at the usage rights/copyright information - and make sure the image use does not violate them in any way:

Google:
Go to images.google.com.
Type your search term (topic) and press enter.
Click on 'Tools'
From the dropdowns that are shown select 'Usage Rights'
Select 'Creative Commons Licences'.
The images you will be shown now can be used by you - but you may need to credit the creators with a proper attribution unless it's a CC0 licence. So please save the image source link and creator details for attribution.
AI Generated Images:
Feel free to use AI generated images, as long as they meet criteria such as relevance.
Apart from the usual you may also want to try Adobe Firefly. You can login using your Google ID to create images for free.
Step 11.2: Create Banner
Open the template file.
Click on Use Template for New Design. A copy of the file will be created. You can change the name of the new file to your campaign name.
Add the photo you selected in Step 11.1 by dragging it, from elements or directly from your system. You can also go to the Uploads tab and upload the image there and then drag it onto the page. You can also click on the image once it is in Canva to add it.
Frame the photo: Just drag the photo into the photo frame on the right side of the template and it will automatically be embedded. To make adjustments to the framed photo - you can double click it. Once the photo is selected you can adjust its size or move it around, so that the intended subject is showing.
Add the Campaign Title: Click on Title and replace with your Title. The title should be in Title Case.
